Two brothers have been jailed after a judge ruled that a suspended sentence for a brutal attack in Carlisle was too lenient.
Kenneth Brown, 27, and Shaun Brown, 25, both of Winmoss Drive, Liverpool, were given suspended sentences for the Lowther Street attack in October 2022.
They subjected the victim to a three-minute brutal attack, kicking and stamping on his head over 10 times leaving him with a broken nose, hand and significant cuts and bruises.
But the sentence was referred to the Court of Appeal after being referred by the Solicitor General to the Unduly Lenient Sentences scheme.
The Court of Appeal sentenced the brothers to three-and-a-half years for attempting to cause grievous bodily harm.
Both were identified as being involved in the incident following a CCTV appeal by police and arrested by officers in Merseyside.
Speaking about the appeal, Detective Constable Nick Mandale, of Cumbria Constabulary, said “We welcome the revised sentences.
“Kenneth and Shaun subjected the victim to a brutal attack and now will be reflecting on their actions in prison.
“Such an attack could have killed the victim but luckily, he did not sustain more serious life changing injuries.”
