A pop-up valuation event will be held this weekend by a leading Cumbrian auction house.

Mitchells will be holding the event at Victoria Hall, Grange-over-Sands, on Saturday, July 6 between 10am and 2pm.

Whether it’s a painting by a local artist, a piece of jewellery, a treasured toy or something else, people are invited to simply drop by with their items, or a picture if they’re too big to carry, for a free, no obligation valuation.

Mitchells’ South Lakes valuer David Brookes, head of antiques, fine art & country sports James Moore, collectibles and toys expert David Lomas and valuer Claire Machin will all be on hand to value items as they come in

For some it will simply be a chance to find out more about treasured family heirlooms, while others may take advantage of the convenience of leaving their items with the Mitchells team to be taken back and auctioned at their Cockermouth saleroom.

Previous pop-up valuations have yielded a whole variety of valuable items including a collection of Victorian bug brooches, a valuable Winifred Nicholson watercolour, rescued from a bin in her studio, a football signed by George Best and Bobby Moore, Cumberland and Westmorland Wrestling belts in immaculate condition, an extremely rare boxed set of miniature racing cars and valuable whisky from Port Ellen distillery.

A Victorian silver plated horse racing trophy in the form of a tankard brought into a valuation event in Ulverston was sold for £4,000 at Mitchells in September and a rare silver George III Indian Peace Medal dated 1814 from a valuation event in Penrith recently sold for £3,900 in their June Antiques & Fine Art Sale.

James said: “We offer free drop-in valuations at our Cockermouth saleroom Monday to Friday 9 to 5 but wanted to make it easier for people further afield to access our services too.

“Our pop-up valuations have proved really popular so we decided to hold another one in the south of the county and Grange is the ideal location.

“We’re keen to encourage more people to consider selling by auction through Mitchells.  We reach buyers all over the world with our online sale catalogues and internet bidding which means we achieve the highest prices for the items we sell.”

Mitchells is currently inviting entries for their next Vintage & Antique Toy Sale on August 8, Antiques & Fine Art Sale from September 11 to September 13 and Country Sporting Sale from October 9 to October 11.

Alternatively, home visits can also be arranged.
