Boyband Blue and Whigfield are among the acts to perform at a free festival in Whitehaven next month.

Part of a three-day celebration organised by Proud and Diverse Cumbria, the free concert takes place on August 2 on the harbourside.

It follows the opening of Colours Whitehaven on August 1, a new cafe and drop-in centre on King Street and on August 3, Pride on the Harbourside returns.

There will be trade stalls, food, goodies, activities, a funfair and more. There will also be live music from acts including DJ Sash, Mary Kiani and Jenny Ball.

Proud and Diverse Cumbria said: “These events are free, simply because we want to put a smile on faces and bring some joy to the town.

“None of this would be possible without the continued support of our sponsors. The council, the nuclear industry, and many more have been integral in making this three-day event possible.

“We look forward to what the future holds with the new drop-in centre. We want people to realise that Proud and Diverse Cumbria is not strictly about supporting the LGBTQ community; we want to make an impact and attempt to eradicate all inequalities within our society, whether that is race, sexuality, or financial inequality.”
