A man is due to appear in court today after a pensioner died following a collision on the A595.

Police investigating the collision on the A595 at Bothel in the early hours yesterday, Monday July 1, have charged a man overnight with causing death by dangerous driving.

Noel Peter Collins, 33, of County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, but of no fixed address, was charged in the early hours of this morning and remanded to appear at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court today.

Collins was arrested at the scene of the collision which took place shortly before 12.25am and involved a black Toyota RAV and a blue Honda Civic.

The driver of the Honda Civic – a man in his 70s from the Wigton area – was declared dead at the scene.

Police are continuing to appeal for anyone who witnessed what has occurred or who has any information which may assist the investigation to come forward.
