A darts academy is up and running in Carlisle to encourage more people to take up the game.
Two local stalwarts John Duncan and Nev Jack have established the academy on Friday nights at the Museum pub and are looking to attract a few more interested novices.
John says: “We have 10 players of several different age groups, both men and women, taking part in our weekly sessions.
“The players are of varying abilities, so it has to be managed carefully as you don’t want to make it too difficult for the ones starting off but challenging enough for the better ones.
“The aim is to make sure that everybody who comes to these sessions gets something out of it. Myself and Nev are always on hand to offer advice when it’s needed.

“The best bit of setting up the academy is that everyone who comes really seems to enjoy the nights in the Museum.
“We are still looking for at least two or three more people to come along, so that is an open invitation to anyone who would like to have a go.”
With the help of the Museum landlady, the academy now has two fixed oches and two sight-rights to help players line up with the dartboard better.

In addition they have acquired three dart boards, two of which will stay up in the Museum for the academy and pub regulars to use and they also have a Blade Six board for academy use only.
There is also a small kitty which will be used for anything else that John and Nev feel will benefit the academy.
