Kendal Town will go into Tuesday’s home friendly with Carlisle United three from three after they came from behind to beat Morecambe on Saturday 2-1.
With victories in their two previous warm-up games Kendal were pleased to beat a young Morecambe side to keep the winning start to the pre-season campaign.
Manager Jimmy Marshall, celebrating his birthday with the win, said: “It isn’t about results in pre-season, more about getting minutes into legs, although it is nice to see us finding our shape.
“It was a good exercise against Morecambe, because we didn’t see as much of the ball in the previous two games. That will be even more the case on Tuesday against Carlisle but that side of the game is very important, coping without the ball.
“I have to say that I have been very impressed with some of our Under-23s who have played in these early games and haven’t looked out of place – which is very encouraging.”
Kendal had conceded an early goal after eight minutes and they were still behind at half-time although James Bailey had hit the post.
The Mintcakes piled on the pressure at the start of the second half and the finally levelled on 57 minutes. Although the Morecambe pulled off a fine save to deny Steve Yawson the rebound went in off one of his defenders.
It was Yawson who scored a deserved winner for Kendal on 75 minutes when he got through one-on-one and went round the keeper to slot home.
