
An increased number of police took to Cumbria’s streets for the Euro 2024 final.
Following the Three Lions’ semi-final win on Wednesday night, the team went head to head with Spain on Sunday night July 14,, with kick off starting at 8pm.
Pubs were also be allowed to remain open until 1am under relaxed licencing rules.
Cumbria Constabulary Superintendent, Sarah Jones, said: “Tonight we will have increased police presence across the county and they’ll be providing reassurance and dealing with any incidents as they arise.
“Our key messages to you are to enjoy the event, but to do so responsibly. We won’t tolerate violence, disorder, or drink or drug driving. We want people to enjoy the event and get home safely. Let’s hope for a good win.”
Whitehaven Coastguard also issued a plea for people watching the final to stay safe while out near coastal areas across Cumbria.
People were asked to avoid walking home alongside water after the match.
