Kendal Town manager Jimmy Marshall is raring to go in the Northern League now after his side completed pre-season with a 4-0 home win over Atherton Collieries.
Marshall said: “Bring it on. We know it’s going to be tough as Redcar Athletic, who we play in the opener, are among the favourites to win the League.
“But pre-season could hardly have gone any better with six wins in seven games and the only defeat was against an EFL side in Carlisle United.
“We didn’t want to move from the North West Counties but we have retained most of our players, recruited well and I think we are in a good place.
“We’ve had a good mix in these pre-season games of teams below us in the pyramid and others who are above us.
“I was particularly pleased with the performance against Atherton Collieries who were in NPL Premier last season. I stressed beforehand that I wanted everyone who came on from the bench to make an impact whether it was for half a game or 20 minutes and I’m pleased to say I got that.
“We now have a clear week which gives us two training sessions when we can work on tactical and technical things because once the season starts it’s so hectic – Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday and so on.”
Newly appointed skipper Niall Cowperthwaite had given Kendal the lead on 43 minutes with a well-executed free-kick.
They finished the game very strongly with three goals in the last 15 minutes through Matt Dudley, Brandon Croskell-Robinson and Ben Turton.
“They were all decent goals but I really liked the third. It was a good team goal well finished off by Brandon,” said Marshall.
