Whitehaven have landed two more recruits to boost their threadbare squad in the fight to avoid relegation from the Championship.
They have signed Sam Ackroyd from fellow Betfred Championship side Bradford Bulls on loan and also made the permanent signing of Callum Shaw from Betfred Super League side Hull FC.
Hooker or half back Ackroyd will not be available for selection until the Dewsbury away game on August 25 after picking up a suspension playing for the Bulls reserves last month, but will be a valuable addition going into the final weeks of the season.
Shaw is a winger who joins the club on a permanent deal and will step up having signed a contract for the remainder of the 2024 season. Shaw came recommend after contact from former Haven loanee Davy Litten who has played with him at Hull in the reserves set-up this season.
The club have signed a dual registration agreement which will allow Callum to head back and play for Hull reserves if not selected for Jonty Gorley’s squad to ensure he continues to receive game time if required.
The duo come into the club alongside the trio of Mac Walsh, Ben Hursey and Sam Campbell who made their debuts in yesterday 12-24 defeat to Widnes Vikings.
