The West Cumbria League has been won by Workington thirds – who actually beat their own fourth team to clinch the title.
It’s a Sunday League and is played in the shadow of the Cumbria League but there are some promising young players – alongside some seasoned veterans to steady the ship.
The new champions have only lost one game all season and they beat their fourths by nine wickets to clinch the crown.
The fourth team were put into bat and they needed a solid 23 from seasoned opener Ian Batty to reach 84 all out with Luke Makin (13) and club chairman Kristian Moffat (10no) the best support.

Elden Taylor (3-5) and Yuva Teja (3-11) were the most successful bowlers for the thirds.
Although Makin clean bowled Bryan Thompson without scoring the third team was carried to victory with an unbroken partnership between Matthew Young (43no) and Matt Lannaghan (24no).
They reached 87-1 in 14.2 overs to win, and they were also helped by 16 extras, including ten wides.
