Friday August 23 should have marked the final scheduled round of fixtures in the West Cumbria Fours League, sponsored by Whitehaven Trophies.
However, only two games were played, as the fixtures between the two Whitehaven and the two Workington teams were postponed because players from the two clubs were at the Bowls England National Finals in Leamington Spa.
The outstanding games involving the Whitehaven and Workington teams were played last Friday (30 August) and the results were: Whitehaven B 0, Whitehaven A 7 and Workington B 0, Workington A 7.
Although both Workington A and Whitehaven A have one game left to play (against each other) the result would have no bearing on the final league standings and so the teams have agreed not to play the fixture and to share the points.
So it’s congratulations to Workington A who have again won the league and also to Whitehaven A who pipped Fitz Park to second place.
The final league standings are: Workington A 96.5 points, Whitehaven A 84.5 points, Fitz Park 80 points, Cleator Moor 62 points, Maryport 59 points, Workington B 37 points, Vulcan Park 35 points, Seaton 29 points, Whitehaven B 23 points.
In the two other games which were played recently Vulcan Park defeated Cleator Moor 5-2 and Fitz Park defeated Seaton 7-0.
In the West Cumbria Mixed Triples League results of games played on 20 August: Vulcan Park 8, Harris Park A 1; Harris Park B 2, Cleator Moor 7; Seascale 0, Croft 9; Maryport 2, Whitehaven A 7; Seaton 7, Egremont 2.
Results of a game played 27 August: Cleator Moor 8 Wigton 1. The game between Harris Park A and Seascale will not be played and the points have been shared.
Although 27 August was the scheduled final day for games to be played in this league there are still a number of games outstanding and the final league table will be published when all those results have been received.
