Penrith slipped up at home when they were beaten 3-2 by Newcastle Blue Star in a Northern League Division One fixture.
It was a disappointing result after a good 1-0 win in mid-week over Crook Town but the squad has been decimated by injuries and suspensions to such an extent they were unable to fill a bench.
They had started well enough with a good finish from Conor Hammell into the top corner after only eight minutes.
But the energy, that had #been a feature over their win against Crook in mid-week, just wasn’t there and they conceded two goals inside a nightmare four-minute spell before half-time.
Nathan Kidd (37) and Daniel Lanning (41) put Blue Star ahead and set problems for Penrith in the second-half.
Those problems increased when Lanning grabbed his second goal after 67 minutes and although Matthew Story pulled one back on 75 minutes the Bonnyblues just couldn’t do enough to salvage anything from the game.
There is no mid-week game for Penrith, which is a blessing given their absentee list, and it will give time to have some fit for Saturday’s FA Vase tie at home to Padiham.
The visitors lie 15th of 24 in the North West Counties Premier Division and yesterday they beat Pilkington, one of the sides below them in the table, 2-0.
