More players needed for successful Pan Disability football side

A successful West Cumbrian Pan Disability football team is looking for more players.

Workington Super Diamonds is a well-established side, with teams ranging from under-12s to open age.

The flexible and inclusive nature of the sport enables players to overcome any barriers that may have previously prevented them from playing the sport. All are welcome to come and try.

The side trains at Workington Academy on Wednesdays from 5pm to 6pm.

Ricky Fee, one of the coaches of Workington Super Diamonds, said: “We are looking for all age groups to join ranging from U12s, U16s U18s and open age – male and female welcome.

“My son is autistic and five years ago, we decided to try football after seeing a leaflet in his school.

“He was greeted with friendly faces at Workington Super Diamonds and most importantly he felt safe and wasn’t judged.

“It was good for us too as parents, to meet other parents with similar experiences.

“It gives parents a little respite and offers the youngsters a fun and safe environment and they get to progress through the age groups too.”

Workington Super Diamonds take part in tournaments every month across Cumbria and Ricky said he would urge parents to bring their children along to training.

He added: “It’s such a good atmosphere and very flexible. We’d love to see more players join us.”

For more information, call Ricky on 07854514152 or Andy on 07731841818.
