
Trains between Whitehaven and Carlisle have been cancelled and delayed due to a broken down train.
It is believed the train suffered a brakes failure just outside Maryport – which has caused severe delays.
Passengers on the broken down train – including football fans travelling to a Newcastle match – have been stuck for two hours and are currently being shunted by another train to get to Carlisle.
The train is not stopping at any stations on the line to Carlisle.

The 1.15pm Barrow to Carlisle train is however now cancelled after it was initially due to arrive at 3.46pm.
Northern Rail have apologised for the delay to services and ask passengers to check for updates before they travel.
