When you’ve just been beaten by an added time penalty there’s not much more that can go wrong!
Well, it did to Workington yesterday at Hyde United where their 3-2 loss was compounded by an injury to a key player.
Jordan Little has probably been Reds most consistent player this season but he is likely to be out for at least two months.
He went off injured early in the first-half and a scan today revealed a broken bone in his foot.
Reds have to go to Stockton Town on Wednesday night and there will also have to be an injury check on skipper Dav Symington who also had to be replaced at Hyde.
Reds had made a disappointing start and fell behind on six minutes when a ball into the box was only partially cleared and Shakeel Jones-Griffith finished expertly with a cracking shot into the bottom corner.
It didn’t take long for Reds to draw level. Kai Nugent put a ball into the danger area where Steven Rigg battled to force it over the line.
A scruffy goal but a deserved one as Reds recovered well to get back on terms after four minutes.
Reds lost Little on 28 minutes and five minutes later they fell behind again.
When they lost possession on halfway Hyde broke quickly and Matthew Fearnley finished powerfully past Alex Mitchell.
Reds might have rolled over in the second-half after that Hyde response but they battled really well to stay in the contest.
When they levelled on 74 minutes it really did look as though they had the momentum to go on and win the game.
Kai Nugent bagged the goal with a superbly placed free kick from the edge of the area.
It was a real bodyblow when Reds conceded a penalty in the 91st minute. Following a corner Efe Ambrose was considered slightly late on a challenge and the spot kick was awarded to be driven home by Jack Redshaw.
