Whitehaven have re-signed their former full-back Jordan Burns who has just completed the last two seasons with Workington Town.
Burns, 29, is returning to his hometown club after first signing ten years ago ahead of the Championship season.
He had made his debut away to Dewsbury Rams scoring two tries in a 23-16 victory in the first of 14 appearances in his debut campaign.
Burns was an integral part of the club’s 2019 League 1 title winning campaign making 18 appearances in all competitions scoring 10 tries and kicking 9 goals.
The last four tries came in the club’s final game of the campaign in the victory that secured the league title away to Coventry Bears.
Following the conclusion of this campaign Jordan stepped away from the professional game having made 109 appearances in Haven colours scoring 52 tries and 37 goals for a points total of 282.
He returned to his former amateur club Kells where he was a stand-out performer in the National Conference League but was persuaded to re-join the pro ranks in 2023 by Workington Town.
In his two seasons at the Fibrus Community Stadium he made 38 appearances scoring 18 tries under Haven’s new head coach Anthony Murray.
Burns will now return to the Ortus Rec heading into his ninth professional season and has spoken about his return to the club.
He said: “It’s good to have an opportunity to come back. I spoke to Muzza (Anthony Murray) when he first got appointed and through working with him for the last two years I believe in his cause and believe he is the right man for the job. I want to be a part of helping him to achieve that.”
After signing Burns head coach Murray said: “It’s great that Jordan has decided to come home and work with me again.
“When I decided to take the job at Whitehaven Jordan Burns was a must signing after previously working with him. I got to know what Jordan brings to a team while his experience will be instrumental to what we want to do with a brand new, young and largely inexperienced team at this level.
“His leadership qualities and his desire to be competitive every week will rub off on all around him.”
