Two stolen campervans have been recovered and two men arrested as Cumbria police’s rural crime team took part in a week of action.
Officers have recovered property, supported colleagues, and investigated crime with other forces including North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, Durham, Northumbria, Police Scotland and Cleveland.
The team also ran a local Operation Checkpoint which saw officers patrolling eastern borders targeting travelling criminals coming into our county.
This included carrying out a number of vehicles stops and engaging with drivers.
In support of Operation Dark Night, the team has been supporting the road safety initiative with patrols by the mounted volunteers looking at vulnerable road users specifically horse riders.
The team also recovered a stolen campervan within Cumbria with a second stolen campervan and a tractor both seized in different counties.
The team supported colleagues from the Eden Neighbourhood Policing Team with drone support to locate two men following a report of a theft.
Officers had stopped the vehicle on the A66 and the two men ran onto the fells. Both men from Sunderland were arrested for theft and released on police bail.
Sergeant Amanda McKirdy, of the Cumbria Rural Crime Team, said: “This week has highlighted the varied work that we do as a team, from meeting with partners such as Young Farmers and the Environment Agency to recovering stolen property
“We are also continuing with our preventative work reacting to incidents reported, speaking to our communities on what steps they can take to protect their property.
“We continue to ask that people report incidents or suspicious activity to us so we can respond.”
