A meeting will be held in Kendal to discuss proposals with a developer to build 143 homes in the town.

Hallgarth Residents Association is holding a meeting on November 12 between 6.30pm and 8.30pm where a series of questions will be asked of a representative of Persimmons regarding a proposed housing development on land west of High Sparrowmire.

The meeting is scheduled to take place at Hallgarth Community Centre where a number of questions will be asked on topics voted for by residents which include access to the site during construction and ongoing, traffic, flooding, affordability and construction, including effects on wildlife.

Housebuilder Charles Church Lancashire said in May it had exchanged contracts to buy land allocated for housing on the edge of the town.

The proposed development could consist of around 143 homes offering a mix of one-to-five-bedroom properties.

Although details are still to be finalised, the housebuilder says it anticipates 35% of the homes will be delivered as affordable-rent or discount to market value.

Andrew Laing, land and planning director at Charles Church Lancashire, said: “We’re delighted to have secured this opportunity to move forward with our plans for new homes in Kendal.

“This proposal will make a significant contribution towards housing needs in Cumbria and deliver high quality new homes with significant open space for residents and the wider community to enjoy.”

According to the developer, a planning application is being prepared to submit to Westmorland and Furness Council.
