Penrith will be looking to put some points on the Regional 1 North West League table when they return to Winters Park on Saturday.
After two recent away defeats to the leading pair in the League, with an excellent home victory over fourth-placed Blackburn in between, it will be good to face less daunting opposition.
Tomorrow Stoke-on-Trent are the visitors and they are a point and a place below Penrith in the table.
There was much to feel pleased with in the recent games against Rossendale and Anselmians, despite the defeats, but Penrith will feel 8th in the table is much lower than they want to be as they have been eyeing a place in the top half.
Cumbria Society referee Andy Shaw will be the man in the middle at Winters Park.
Meanwhile Kendal are looking at a second away success when they travel to Leek who are next to bottom without a win in eight games.
The young Kendal side collected their first win on the road at Birkenhead Park, who haven’t a single point to their name, and Leek will be in the Mint Bridge side’s sights.
Interestingly, from a Cumbrian point of view, their respective opponents met last week-end and it finished as a points feast with Stoke-on-Trent emerging 41-38 winners in their home game with Leek.
In the Regional 2 North all five Cumbrian sides have home games with the League’s only game in the north east – Consett v Durham City.
It means that the top four sides in the competition are all in Cumbria so the county’s representatives all have motivations to topple the best.
Keswick have the toughest assignment against League leaders Middlesbrough but the Lakesiders put up a very good performance against them last season at Davidson Park and will be looking for something similar. Martin Maughan will referee.
Second-placed Northern are at Aspatria while the third side Morpeth visit Carlisle and to complete a tough line-up Kirkby Lonsdale are at home to fourth in the table West Hartlepool.
Simon Barker has been appointed to referee at Aspatria; Archie Harding will officiate at Carlisle and Martin Denvir will be in charge at Kirkby Lonsdale.
That leaves Upper Eden, and they have a chance to pick-up much needed points when they entertain Guisborough. The visitors scored their first win of the season (45-22) last week to leave opponents Kirkby Lonsdale at the foot of the table.
An Exchange Referee from Northumberland, Rebecca Rees is on another visit to Cumbria and will be in charge at Pennine Park.
In Counties 1 Cumbria leaders Wigton travel to Hawcoat Park with Roger Moffatt in the middle while there’s a good Copeland derby in prospect with Whitehaven v Egremont, controlled by Jim Donald.
Penrith 2nds are up there with Wigton and Egremont and they entertain St. Benedict’s who are also among the Big Five in fourth place. Mike Firby will be in charge.
The other games are Creighton v Ambleside (Iain Tait) and Millom v Keswick 2nds (Dan Shovelton).
