The good news keeps coming for Carlisle United after their miserable start to the season.
Following a second successive win for the Blues when they beat Morecambe in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy, the club’s Under-18s recorded a significant win last night.
Mark Birch’s side won 1-0 at Barnsley in the second round of the FA Youth Cup and it’s the first time they have featured in the third round for four years.
The only goal of the game came on 51 minutes when Barnsley’s keeper made a horrible error, allowing a shot from substitute Lewis Lambert to squeeze through his hands into the net.
United will now await the third round draw which will see teams from the Premier League and Championship join the competition.
There’s still a clutch of second round ties to be played next week before the third round draw is made, and those ties have to be completed by December 14.
The Carlisle side was: Randall, Chapman, Hodgson (Smith 78), Penney, Porter, Atkinson, Rigby, Skinner (Lambert 46), O’Donoghue, Lowes, Hopper. Not used: Sillitoe, Bell, Hatton.
