Plans to extend a flood embankment in Kendal have been lodged with Westmorland & Furness Council.
The Environment Agency wants to extend the embankment near Young Spring in Kendal.
The agency was originally granted permission in 2019 to carry out the flood risk work and improve the flood resilience for the area around Helsington Mill, south of Kendal town centre.
Following construction of the original embankment, data gathered has shown additional flood protection is needed due to the existing lay of the land, it said.
The second stage of the scheme has been designed to address the flood risk from Young Spring, which includes raising and extending the embankment approved as part of the original scheme, to the southern end of the proposed development.
A 13-week consultation on the plans has now opened.
An Environment Agency spokesman said: “The Environment Agency is committed to continuous engagement and consultation from the initial design and development of the proposed flood embankment through to construction.
“Since 2023, we have continued to engage with Helsington Mill residents, Natural England, Kendal Town Council, Westmorland and Furness Council, and landowners, including the Woodland Trust.
“The consultation is an opportunity for residents to view the plans and give their feedback.”
