A London police commander who headed up a panel which dismissed the head of the Met’s Black Police Association this week has Cumbrian connections.
Charles Ehikioya was dismissed for gross misconduct over a WhatsApp group chat featuring racist, sexist and inappropriate messages.
The panel hearing evidence this week was led by Commander Jason Prins – and his name may have rung a bell with sports fans in this county.
He is better known in Cumbria as a footballer.
He made his debut for Carlisle United in April 1992 helping them to a 2-1 home win over Northampton Town.
He played for Carlisle in 91-92 and 92-93 but made five starts and eight sub appearances without scoring.
Prins joined Workington Reds in 1994, making his debut in March of that year in a 2-1 home win over Eastwood Town.
He scored his first goal for Reds in a friendly win versus Windscale and his first league goal was in a 2-1 victory at Alfreton Town.
He also scored in a 3- 0 home win over Guiseley and made a total of 11 appearances for the West Cumbrian side.
Prins then joined the Met Police and it is understood he played for the Met Police in the southern leagues for several years, becoming a regular scorer for them.
