Whitehaven followed up their derby win over Workington Town by making progress in the Challenge Cup.
After beating Town to win the Ike Southward Memorial Trophy they beat League One rivals Swinton Lions 24-12 in a second successive home game.
It was an important victory for Anthony Murray’s side as it earned them a money-spinning home tie with Super League Warrington Wolves in the next round.

They also had to do it the hard way, coming from 12-0 down at half-time to score 24 unanswered points after the turnround.
The Lions had the better of the first half and took a deserved lead into the break with two tries from Aaron Lynch with a conversion each from Reece Briers and ex-Haven Dan Abram.

But it was a different story in the second half when Whitehaven’s young, inexperienced side fought back – not hitting the front until three minutes from time and then adding a fourth try before the hooter.
Josh Blinkhorn, Mitchell Todd, Mason Lewthwaite and Jack Kellett crossed for the tries with Kieran Tyrer converting three and adding a penalty.
