A man has been arrested in connection with incidents where over 20 puppies were dumped in north Cumbria last month.
Cumbria police’s rural crime team, with the support of the North tactical support group and the dog unit, arrested the 25-year-old man from the Brampton area in Canonbie on Monday. Officers also searched the address.
He was on suspicion of three incidents of causing unnecessary suffering to protected animals after three batches of puppies being deposited in North Cumbria in December.
He has been released under investigation whilst our enquiries continue.
The unit said: “We have been working with colleagues at Cumberland Council and whilst sadly three of the puppies didn’t survive, over 20 have since received treatment and been rehomed.
“We are committed to tackling any case of animal suffering, with support from partners.”
