A man has been banned from Whitehaven shops for two years after he was convicted of shoplifting.
Matthew Jones, 28, of Corkicle, was given a Criminal Behaviour Order yesterday by magistrates.
The order, secured by Copeland police’s neighbourhood policing team, follows Jones being sentenced of three counts of shoplifting on November 21 at Spar, Hensingham, November 14 at Home Bargains, Whitehaven and December 13 at a Whitehaven Greggs outlet.
He must not enter any shops part of the Whitehaven Shop Watch Scheme or any shops displaying the Whitehaven Shop Watch Scheme logo.
He is allowed to attend Morrisons Pharmacy, Flatt Walks, Whitehaven, for collecting medication.
A police spokesman said: “This Criminal Behaviour Order will prevent Jones from further criminality and help protect business owners and local residents.
“I would encourage anyone who witnesses the terms of such a court order being broken to contact the police immediately. The punishment for breaking the terms of an order can be up to five years in prison.”
Anyone who sees Jones breaching the terms of his order should contact the police.
