Cumbrian charity Team Evie, set up in memory of Evie Johnston, is celebrating 10 years of Evie as it approaches what would have been her 10th birthday.
Evie was born on March 30 2015, and spent the majority of her life in hospital, alongside her parents Greg and Jill.
When Evie died in September 2015 the couple began fundraising to help other families who experience similar circumstance to them, and Team Evie was born.
The charity has helped tens of thousands of sick children since being founded in late 2015, through donations of medical equipment, sensory equipment, parent packs, physio equipment, comfort items, a Special Baby Group, renovating Parent Rooms in hospitals and much more.
The charity also runs a peer support service, matching trained volunteer veteran parents with those currently in hospital.
“We are never the best at celebrating everything we have achieved, but approaching Evie’s 10th birthday felt like the perfect time to do something special,” said Evie’s dad and Team Evie CEO Greg Johnston.
The charity has launched a social media campaign called Evie’s 10 for 10, which they are asking everyone to get involved with.
To take part, supporters are asked to come up with their own challenge to do with the number 10 – this can be anything from running 10 miles, baking 10 cakes, eating 10 pies or getting 10 hours sleep, you name it!
Once people have taken part there is an appeal page where they donate £10, they then post on social media and tag 10 friends to nominate them to get involved.
Greg added: “We came up with the Evie 10 for 10 challenge as something that anyone and everyone could get involved with to share Evie’s story far and wide, and raise some funds for us to continue our vital work.
“We are so incredibly proud of the impact Evie has had on the world in the last 10 years. She has inspired so many people, including us with the charity, every day. Through everyone’s hard work in her name she has saved other children’s lives and helped an incredible amount of families, we are so proud of her.
“It would be amazing to spread the word of Evie’s story as far and wide as we can – we really want people to get behind the idea and help us raise awareness and funds if they can!”
