
Round 14 in the L&L Property Contractors Snooker League produced some fascinating encounters this week, and with a 3-2 home victory it was division 2′ Workington Conservative Club who stole the headlines with a defeat of division 1 title challengers, Station Road Club.
Frame one saw Alan Moore give Workington Cons the early lead, defeating Tom Thompson 47-38 in a tactical encounter.
However, Station Road hit back as John Teasdale secured a 66-16 win over Julian Plaza, before Darren Lawson followed up with a 56-26 victory over Cons’ Dave Holland, shifting the momentum to the away side.
Ryan Barker ensured the match went to a decider with a 60-27 triumph over Chris Hunter, and with a 52-43 win over Mike Walker in the last it was Brian Kendall who dragged the Cons outfit over the line for an impressive team victory.
The win keeps Workington Cons at the top of division 2 on 36 points, while Station Road remain second in division 1 on 40 points.
Up next, Workington Veterans Club A delivered another dominant performance with a 4-1 home victory over division 2’s Maryport Social, keeping their title hopes alive in division 1.
Mark Tunstall gave Vets A the perfect start with a solid 55-43 win over Ben Scott, before Kevin Basnett produced a pressure clearance of 30 to defeat Andrew Sharp 76-46 for a 2-0 Vets A lead.
Maryport Social pulled a frame back through Andrew Scott, who battled hard to defeat Mark Tatton 71-56, nevertheless that was as good as it was to get for the visitors.

Vets A responded emphatically, securing a 61-28 win over Gary Miller for 3-1, and with Stephen O’Hagan wrapping proceedings in style, making a 31 break in the process, the Vets A cueist defeated Greg Todd 76-21 for a 4-1 match victory.
The result keeps Vets Club A firmly in the division 1 title race sitting in third on 37 points, while Maryport Social drop to third in division 2 on 26 points.
The next fixture saw Workington’s United Club A maintain their division 1 title charge with a hard-fought 3-2 away victory over division 2 Whitehaven side, The Rack Shack.
The hosts started well as Phil Denver defeated Andrew Mitchelhill 70-37, but United A quickly hit back through Clive Lister, who beat Lee Dougherty 54-10.
United A took control in the third frame, with Peter O’Hagan producing a dominant 75-23 victory over Adam Morilla to put them 2-1 ahead.
However, The Rack Shack refused to go down without a fight, and Andy Moore levelled the match with a 69-40 win over Mark Suitor, setting up a tense decider.
In the final frame, United A’s Dave Chapman kept his composure under pressure, defeating Neil Dougherty 59-38 to clinch what could be an important 3-2 victory for the division 1 title hopefuls.

United A stay top of division 1 on 42 points and The Rack Shack sit fourth in division 2 on 23 points.
Finally, United Club B claimed an important 3-2 home victory over Workington’s Veterans Club B in an evenly contested all division 2 match-up.
Vets B started well, as Adam Hodgson secured a 55-38 win on the black over Adam Sowden for a 1-0 match lead.
United B responded quickly however, with Richard Kirkham winning a tight encounter against Simon Tootle 67-53, before Stephen Jackson produced a dominant captains performance with a 55-7 victory over Dan Hallam to give United B a 2-1 lead.
Vets B fought back again, as in frame four Paul Johnston secured a 46-24 win over Shane Tallentire, forcing a nail-biting last frame decider.
In the final frame Stephen Harrison delivered under extreme pressure, beating Jordan Ferguson 57-37 to secure an important 3-2 win for United Club B.
The victory sees United B move up to second in division 2 on 27 points while Vets B remain rooted to the bottom of division 2 on 16 points.
