Lake District hotel staff are set to take on an epic 25-mile charity hike with a difference.
The walk is being organised by the Lake District Hotels Association to raise money for Hospitality Action – a charity dedicated to support the mental health and wellbeing of hospitality workers.
Taking place on Thursday April 13, the walk will see staff tackle part of the Cumbria Way from opposite ends of the Lake District, and meeting in the middle of Great Langdale.
Teams are aiming to raise at least £10,000 sponsorship for the walkers, from the hotels they work for and Association sponsors.
They are already at 50 per cent of their target with the support of the David Snowdon Trust.
Both teams of walkers will tackle sections of the Cumbria Way, from Borrowdale in the north, and Coniston in the south, converging at the Langdale Hotel near Elterwater.
One team will start south of Keswick, near Grange in Borrowdale, covering 13.5 miles and the other at Torver, south of Coniston, covering 12.5 miles, both ending at the hotel on the Langdale Estate for a celebration.
They will be led by staff from the Association’s managers group, and each party will walk around 13 miles over some of the Lake District’s most challenging passes.
Each route is expected to take around six or seven hours.
Ben Mayou, the Association’s chair said: “For workplace teams, the event also provides a chance to develop teamwork skills, build stronger workplace relationships and promote an inclusive, collaborative culture.”
The Lake District Hotels Association represents around 50 of the largest independent and branded properties and tourist attractions in Cumbria.
Hospitality Action is a UK-based charity dedicated to supporting individuals working in the hospitality industry who are facing challenges such as financial hardship, health issues, or other personal difficulties.
Established in 1837, the organisation has a long history of providing assistance to hospitality professionals in need.
