Workington Conservative Club bounced back strongly from last week’s defeat, producing a clinical 4-1 home victory over Maryport Social to stay top of Division 2.

Cons Julian Plaza opened with a stylish 67-50 win over Ben Scott before team mate Alan Moore extended the lead with a gritty 54-45 success against Andrew Sharp.

Brian Kendall then followed with a composed performance to see off Gary Miller 60-41 to put Cons 3-0 up.

Despite a spirited 57-40 win from Maryport’s Andrew Scott over David Holland to reduce the deficit to 3-1, it was Ryan Barker who sealed the win for the Cons, delivering a powerful 71-36 victory over Greg Todd in the final frame of the match.

The win keeps Cons top of Division 2 on 43 points, while Maryport Social drop to third on 30 points.

Workington’s Veterans Club A extended their winning run with a commanding 4-1 away victory against local rivals Vets Club B, solidifying their top-three spot in Division 1.

Mark Tunstall

The match kicked off with a nail-biter as Mark Tunstall narrowly edged out Adam Hodgson 42-41 on the final black. In the second frame, county champion Kevin Basnett delivered a solid 41 break in a high-quality 68-16 win over Shane Tootle to double the Vets A lead.

The division 2 outfit kept themselves in the match however with a Wayne Sinclair 51-30 victory over the in-form Mark Tatton before Paul Smith put in a dominant showing to ease past Lewis Straughton 61-11 and secure the match win at 3-1.

In the final frame Vets B’s Paul Johnston battled hard but could find no answers as he eventually went down 69-28 for Vets A to extend their winning margin.

Vets A remain third in Division 1 on 48 points, while Vets B sit bottom of Division 2 on 18 points.

In the next game, Whitehaven’s Rack Shack returned to winning ways with an impressive hard-fought 3-2 home victory against current division 1 champions, Workington Golf Club.

Chris McKelvey put the home side ahead with a solid 60-20 victory over Phil Sorfleet, and Andy Moore followed up with a confident 50-29 win against Simon Frazer. Phil Denver then extended the Rack Shack lead with a dominant 45-15 performance over Kenny Kirkwood to make it 3-0.

Nevertheless the champions demonstrated their fight as Ryan Ismay crafted a classy break of 30 to beat Adam Morilla 60-44, and Bryan Walker claimed the final frame with a tidy 54-40 win over Lee Dougherty to pull the score back to 3-2.

Wayne Sinclair

Rack Shack now sit second in Division 2 on 31 points, while Golf Club are fourth in Division 1 on 41 points.

Finally, Station Road kept the pressure on at the top of Division 1 with a 3-2 home win over United Club B in a high-quality encounter.

Tom Thompson gave the hosts the lead with a clinical 60-41 win over Andrew Carter, and Darren Lawson, with help of a 31 break, followed up with a 61-27 victory over Stephen Jackson for a 2-0 Station Road lead.

However, Richard Kirkham dismissed any memories of last week’s controversial defeat with a 78-54 win against John Teasdale to pull one back for United B.

The away side battled back even further in frame four and with Stephen Harrison producing a polished 51-46 win over Chris Hunter the United B cueist took the fixture to a decider.

In the last frame Station Road couldn’t have had a better player to carry them through as former county snooker champion Kevin Kirkham despatched Adam Sowden with relative ease in a 51-16 frame and match victory.

Station Road remain second in Division 1 on 49 points, while United B hold fourth in Division 2 on 29 points.
