A training exercise for Cumbria’s community first responders has been hailed a success by organisers.
Over 40 first responders, paramedics and actors came together at Long Marton Community School for the scenario-based event, which was organised by members of Appleby & District Community First Responder Group in partnership with North West Ambulance service.
Barrow-based Casualty Union actors carried out realistic category 1 emergency scenarios, to depict the real life calls to which responders attend, including strokes, heart attacks, cardiac arrest, seizures, head injuries and falls.
Community first responders attended the scenarios and were given expert feedback and guidance from paramedics to develop their skillsets and widen their knowledge.
Deputy team leader of the Appleby & District group, Abbie Lund, said: “Training days like these are a fantastic opportunity to meet like minded responders from across the North.
“It’s vital that we are given the opportunity to train, develop our skills and learn from North West Ambulance Service experts – gaining valuable feedback on demanding training scenarios and making us all round better responders for when that pager goes off.
“Our group was delighted to host the event and we look forward to future collaboration across the county.”
