A Carlisle man has been jailed for an attempted robbery in the city.
Terrence Maughan, 42, of Howe Street, was sentenced to three years and eight months in prison at Carlisle Crown Court.
The court heard that on February 21, Maughan approached the victim at a property on Charles Street.
Maughan has attempted to take the handbag that was over the victim’s shoulder off her. This caused a struggle and the victim was punched in the face.
Maughan fled empty-handed.
Detective Constable Josh Daniel, of Cumberland CID said: “Violent offences of this nature are unacceptable.
“Maughan’s actions caused the victim fear when he tried to steal her bag and assaulted her.
“Today’s sentence reflects the seriousness taken by the courts and that we will do everything we can to bring criminals to justice.”
