A Cumbrian animal charity said its efforts to rehome pets so far this year has experienced a huge increase.
Oak Tree Animals Charity, near Wetheral, said it had seen an 102% rise in animals rehomed so far this year.
The charity has been restructured under new CEO, Matthew Notter and the number of rehomed cats has risen by 59% from 37 to 59, while the number of rehomed dogs has increased by 223% from 13 to 42.
It has launched several adoption drives, partnerships with local businesses, and enhanced outreach initiatives and said it was looking to significantly expand its capacity to find homes for animals in need.
The charity added: “However, the journey does not end here. With the surge in adoptions comes the ongoing challenge of care, rehabilitation, and providing necessary resources for animals still in need of homes.
“The charity relies heavily on donations, grants, and volunteers to sustain its operations and expand its impact. Regular funding is essential to maintain their facilities,
provide medical treatments, and ensure that all animals receive the love and attention they deserve while awaiting their forever families.
“Community involvement is critical to the charity’s future success. People can help by volunteering their time, fostering animals, and participating in fundraising events.
“Donating – whether it’s monetary contributions or donated goods for the charity shops – can significantly influence the lives of many vulnerable animals.”
