Anti-social behaviour in a West Cumbrian town centre has led to police issuing a dispersal order.
The order was put in place last night, Sunday June 1, and Copeland Police said it was due to a number of ongoing incidents involving youths.
Police have received a number of calls regarding youths kicking doors, damaging property, causing anti-social behaviour and throwing items at cars among other incidents in Whitehaven town centre.
They said: “This behaviour is disrespectful and appalling for those victims and members of public who have been targeted.
“We will be taking robust action for anyone involved, CCTV enquiries will be conducted over the next few days and identifications made.
“Parents – we strongly advise that if you know your children are out in this area, then you get in touch with them and ensure they are not part of this group.
“It is your responsibility to know where they are. There are parents who will be getting a knock on the door following the latest incident, don’t let this be you.”
A dispersal order gives police extra powers to disperse groups of two or more people from a specific area if their behaviour is causing a nuisance, harassment, or distress. It allows officers and PCSOs to order individuals to leave the area and not return for a set period, often up to 24 or 48 hours.
