Cumbria’s Happy Mums Foundation is celebrating its 10th anniversary this month.
Since 2015, the foundation has worked alongside mums across north and West Cumbria, listening, sharing, and making sure no mum feels alone in their mental health journey.
To celebrate the foundation’s birthday, it is inviting every family, volunteer, supporter and friend who’s been part of Happy Mums over the years to join us for a special drop-in picnic.
Pop in when suits you for as long or as little as you like to the relaxed event on Saturday June 28 between 11.30am and 2.30pm in the grounds of Morton Manor, behind the Family Hub.
People can just bring a picnic blanket and something to eat, and spend some time with old friends and new.
Happy Mums was founded by Katherine Dalgliesh after her own experience with postnatal depression.
What began as a safe place for mums to talk has grown into a lifeline for so many, with an average of 23 peer-led groups now running each month across Cumbria and online.
Lucinda Bray, managing director of The Happy Mums Foundation, said: “One in four mums in our region reach out for help with their mental health, and we know that many more keep their struggles hidden.
“Seventy per cent of mums downplay how bad things really are. That’s why Happy Mums matters so much.
“We’ve worked hard to build a place of trust where it’s ok to be exactly as you are, however you’re feeling. Where it’s okay to admit to struggling and ask for help if needed. This picnic is our way of thanking everyone who’s been part of that journey and showing that, together, we’re stronger.”
Anyone who has been part of Happy Mums, or supported its work in any way, is invited.
