Workington’s River Island store is among the 33 earmarked for closure by the troubled firm.
The fashion retailer announced that it was closing the shops as part of a major shake-up, prompted by a change in customer habits from high street to online shopping.
The review is being overseen by restructuring advisers PwC and will be put to creditors for a vote in August.
In 2023, the retailer saw a pre-tax loss of £33.2m after turnover dropped 19% to £578.1m. The year before, River Island reported a £2m profit.
The firm said 33 of its 230 outlets, which employs a total of around 5,500 people would close by January next year.
River Island also has a store in Carlisle.
