Workington’s young Australian Tate Zischke continued his return to form with a fine guest performance for Glasgow last night.
He won the penultimate race to clinch a 48-42 victory for the Tigers against Redcar Bears and impressed overall, scoring 11 plus two bonus points.
Former Workington rider Charles Wright continued his good run of form by top-scoring for the Bears with 14 points.
The Tigers were given a stern test and were heading for a nervous finale when the Bears reduced the deficit to just four points with three races remaining.
Chris Harris and ex-Comet Kyle Howarth recorded a key 4-2 for the home side in Heat 13 before Zischke won Heat 14 to clinch the victory.
Harris top-scored on 16 points from six rides with Howarth adding 11.
Glasgow boss Cami Brown said: “We knew it was going to be close, and it was good to finally get it wrapped up at Heat 14.
“There was a lot to like in that performance. We were under pressure without Dan Thompson and Leon Flint.
“But our boys rode their hearts out and managed to pull off a really big win. It was a gritty performance.
“Special thanks to guest Tate Zischke who did an outstanding job for us. He gave 100 per cent in every race and possibly was the difference in the end.”
