New figures show that over 6,700 people visited the revamped Maryport Activity Centre in five months this year – and Cumberland Council is hailing it a success.
Maryport Activity Centre was formerly known as the Wave Centre.
It closed in May last year for the £2.3 million revamp, which included a new indoor play area, improvements to Clip n’ Climb, new fitness studio, changing rooms, cafe and community spaces.
The centre reopened in January, and Cumberland Council said it had 6,711 people through its doors.
Prior to the revamp, for the same period in 2024, 2,588 people used the venue it said.
It added that gym memberships had increased by 48%, but did not provide the numbers.
