Two schoolchildren have joined forces to raise funds for a Penrith food bank that supports people being pushed into poverty as the cost of living remains high.
Lucy Wood and Sebastian Raven, pupils at Hunter Hall School in Penrith, spent their spare time creating two sports quizzes for their school friends and parents to take part in with all proceeds going to The Salvation Army in Penrith which runs a busy food bank.
The duo raised £60 and they handed it over to the church leader of Penrith Salvation Army, Major Carole Donaldson.
She said: “Seeing young children get joy from doing something for others and having a positive impact on other people’s lives as a result is wonderful to see.
“Lucy and Seb’s incredibly kind contribution and legacy to our food bank will make a difference to our community. Donations ensure that we can keep our food bank shelves stocked, ensure that people who might be struggling with the cost-of-living can get food for their families, and ensure that no one has to make the agonising decision as to whether they can eat that day or not.”
After handing over the donation, the children were shown around the food bank, learnt what goes into a food parcel and how their funds will support the food bank and continue to help people in need throughout Penrith.
The food bank is open at The Salvation Army’s church and community centre on Hunter Lane on Tuesdays and Fridays, from 10am to 4pm and Wednesdays 1pm to 5pm.
