[A] DANGEROUS driver who led police on a daytime pursuit along residential Kendal roads has been given a suspended prison sentence.

Samuel Paisley, 24, ignored the lights and sirens of an officer’s vehicle as he gave chase on the afternoon of January 30. Paisley reached 40mph in a 20mph zone while behind the wheel of an Audi A3 despite being banned from the road.

He then abandoned his vehicle in a cul-de-sac, scaling a garden fence as he ran away despite being urged to give himself up.

However, Paisley surrendered the next day. He was sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court today (TUES) having admitted charges of dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and without insurance, and failing to stop for a police officer.

Described as being “almost terrified” of prison, Paisley had a nine-month jail sentence suspended for 18 months by Recorder David Swinnerton, who heard submissions on the defendant’s behalf.

Paisley, of Acre Moss Lane, Kendal, must complete 150 hours’ unpaid work and a rehabilitation requirement.

He was also banned from driving for two years, and must pass an extended re-test.
