Barrow 150 and what might have been

barrow 150[O]n 13 June 1867 Barrow received a charter from Queen Victoria which granted the town municipal borough status.

In September of the same year, Devonshire and Buccleuch Docks were opened by William Gladstone.

To commemorate this, Barrow Archive and Local Studies Centre will be putting on an exhibition looking at early Barrow and the docks and then at projects which never actually happened: golf course, hotels on Walney, new police stations, concert halls and a park at the bottom of the cemetery.

The exhibition will be in the library from 13 June to 30 September and can be visited during Library opening hours. (Monday to Thursday 9.30 am to 6 pm, Friday 9.30 am to 5 pm and Saturday 10 am to 4 pm).
