[T]he atmospheric Florence Arts Centre will be hosting another intimate acoustic night of live music on Saturday 1 July with a solo show from Tom Hingley, lead singer and co-songwriter from 90s indie band the Inspiral Carpets.

Hingley was the frontman for the northern hitmakers during their 1990s heyday, lending his distinctive vocals to their best-known hits, including Dragging Me Down, Saturn 5, and the Madchester anthem This Is How It Feels.

At the forefront of the ‘baggy’ scene of the late 80s and early 90s with fellow Manchester stalwarts Happy Mondays and The Stone Roses Hingley’s distinctive vocals defined an era and they successfully rode the wave through to the birth of Britpop. The band split in 1995 after numerous Top of the Pops appearances, 11 UK Top 40 singles and five Top 20 albums, including the farewell collection, The Singles.

Since the split Hingley has formed subsequent bands with Jerry Kelly of The Lotus Eaters and with members of The Fall; he returned to the Inspiral Carpets for successful reunion tours in 2003 and 2008 as well as writing and producing his own material; he released his debut solo album Keep Britain Untidy in 2000 and has produced further five solo albums. For this one-man show he will be performing songs from across his career, including Inspiral Carpets classics alongside solo material and new tracks.

Tickets are on sale now via the venue website or on 01946 824946 and cost £10.
