[C]arus Green Golf Club is gearing up to host one of the biggest golf tournaments in the industry and there is already celebrity interest!

Former ‘Westlife’ boyband member, Brian McFadden, who has described himself as ‘golf mad’, has already confirmed his attendance at Thursday’s Trilby Tour Championship of Cumbria, with Geordie Shore’s, Gaz Beadle, also expected to attend. The club is anticipating a record number of spectators arriving at its premises in Burneside, with Sky Sports covering the live event.

The prestigious amateur golf tournament, now celebrating its 10th anniversary, is hosting a series of regional championships across the UK to find the top 10 from each to earn their place at the International Grand Final, which is being held this year at Hull Golf Club on 31 August. The top players from across the nation will then battle it out to find the Trilby Tour World Champion for 2017.

The appeal of the unique tournament lies in its unusual competitive format, with the top four players on the day going in to a three-hole shootout to decide the champion.

Golfers have hailed the Trilby Tour as the closest experience to a professional tournament, playing under the pressures of an international televised event, accompanied by their own caddies, with die-hard fans returning year after year gripped by its fierce ‘winner takes all’ competitive format. This year, each regional championship will be broadcast on Sky Sports as part of the Trilby Tour series and with annual viewership figures of more than 3.5 million in 2015, the Trilby Tour is officially the largest amateur golf television series in the UK and Europe.

Carus Green has already hosted three qualifying opens for the event, which took place on Saturday 22nd April, Sunday 21st May and Sunday 4th June, and as owner, Graham Curtin, explains, hosting an event of this magnitude in Kendal, is a tremendous coup for the area: “It is a huge honour to be hosting the Cumbrian regional championship of this year’s Trilby Tour and we hope that local people from Kendal and the surrounding area will come down and join us for what should be an extraordinary and fun day,” he said. “It is an enormously prestigious event which puts not just Carus Green – but the county – on the map. We are keeping our fingers crossed for fine conditions and look forward to welcoming our celebrity guests!”

Carus Green has hosted the PGA North Region Championships for the past three years and with on-going investment in the club’s facilities, such as a newly opened Golf Centre, Sports Bar and function suite, is increasing its growing reputation as one of the North’s finest golfing venues.”

Trilby Tour Director, Toby Morgan, added: “With the 2017 Trilby Tour being our 10 Year Anniversary we were looking for some fresh, forward thinking and ambitious clubs in areas of the country that we haven’t visited in the past. We look forward to reaching out to, and introducing, new players to our Tour as well as welcoming back our loyal Trilby Tourians to some fantastic new courses like Carus Green Golf Club.”
