[P]OLICE are responding to suspicious items found in Stockport.

Shortly before 3.40pm on Tuesday 27 June 2017 police were called to reports that suspicious items had been found at a flat on The Hollins, Marple.

Emergency services attended and officers remain at the address while bomb disposal officers make their way to the scene.

Inspector Andy Holden of GMP’s Stockport Borough, said: “This must be an alarming sight for people coming home from work this evening but I want to reassure people that we are working closely with our emergency services colleagues to ensure as little disruption as possible and we do not believe there is any risk to the community at this time.

“As with any discovery of items that appear suspicious, we take all reports extremely seriously and will respond as a matter of urgency to negate any threat to people’s safety, which is why bomb disposal officers will be attending.

“It’s important to note that this is not believed to be terror related and it’s understood this is an isolated incident.”
