[S]ignal Film and Media have announced Marshmallow Laser Feast as the next visiting artists lined up as part of it’s year-long digital arts programme, Lost Stations.
On Saturday 8th July, the London-based studio known worldwide for their pioneering use of creative technology will visit Cooke’s Studios, to give the public a special insight into their fascinating exploration of magical worlds.
The free event will include an artist talk as well as an opportunity to book onto their award-winning virtual reality experience, In the Eyes of the Animal.

The event will run from 5pm-9pm, with the artist talk taking place from 7pm-8pm. Everybody is welcome, however visitors are encouraged to book online for both the talk and the virtual reality experience to guarantee their place. In the Eyes of the Animal was first commissioned by Abandon Normal Devices for their 2015 festival in Grizedale Forest and since having toured to the likes of Sundance Film Festival, this 360° animated and sonic cinematic experience features the hypnotic 3D worlds of four creatures of the forest. Created using lidar scanning technology of the forest environment and including a binaural soundscape, this immersive world of swirling colours is a vibrant, artistic exploration into the science of seeing.
Since 2011, Marshmallow Laser Feast have been offering new and exciting perspectives to audiences globally. They’ve worked with some huge names, creating work for musicians U2 & Squarepusher, with Richard Dawkins and F1’s McLaren. That’s in addition to their work for Saatchi and Saatchi and winning this years’ Tribeca Storyscapes Award! The last six years have seen them explore the use of technology such as 3D scanning, drones, laser beams and projection mapping. The group’s ever-growing ambition is “to hijack the live environment”, with past projects including a musical laser forest, a kinetic light sculpture and choreographing a swarm of flying quadcopters.

This event with Marshmallow Laser Feast is part of the ambitious year-long Lost Stations programme, delivered by Signal Film and Media, which is bringing a whole host of opportunities to Barrow-in-Furness throughout this year. In the next 4 months alone the Lost Stations programme will see artists such as Rachel Maclean, Christopher Bucklow and Cumbria’s very own Octopus Collective take part. Alongside the event, the programme includes 2 new digital art commissions, 8 international artist talks and an extensive community engagement programme. Lost Stations is kindly supported by Arts Council England and the Walney Extension Community Fund from DONG Energy.
