William Richardson

[T]he family of a Maryport man who died following a serious assault in Maryport have described him as a devoted family man who will be dearly missed.

William Richardson, 34, of Elizabeth Terrace, Maryport died yesterday (9 August) after suffering stab wounds during an assault in the early hours of Tuesday (8 August) in Senhouse Street, Maryport.

Mr Richardson was taken from the scene by ambulance to Carlisle Infirmary but subsequently died.

The family of Mr Richardson have paid tribute to him today:

Our beautiful boy William has gone but we will meet again one day.

William; our son, Louise’s brother, dad to Alex (9) and Lewis (8) and ‘Daddy William’ to Mayson (6) – the son of his beloved girlfriend Amy.

William was a devoted family man who was born on the Isle of Man but came to Maryport aged five and attended Maryport C. of E. Infant and Junior School and Netherhall School. After school he worked as a qualified bricklayer.

He loved running and keeping fit – especially his boxing which he won several awards for. He also won a Northern Area title belt as a semi-pro.
William loved us and we will love him until our lives end. Until we meet again, our darling William.

A 32-year-old man who lived in Maryport was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody today (10 August).

Detective Superintendent Vicki Ellis said: “The investigation continues today. We have a team of officers investigating, as well as trained officers working closely with Mr Richardson’s family. Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of William.

“Detectives are continuing to piece together the events of that evening and will continue to secure evidence. I want to thank both the family of Mr Richardson and the community for their patience during this time.

“I can assure the public that we are not seeking to make any further arrests in relation to this incident.

“Finally, I would urge anyone with any information who has yet to come forward to contact the police immediately.”

Anyone with information about this incident who has yet to make contact is urged to contact Cumbria Police as soon as possible.
