Police at the scene

[P]olice are investigating an incident where a van was damaged on Windermere Road, Whitehaven.

It is reported that at approximately 8:30pm yesterday (17th September) two motorbikes stopped next to an empty, parked van on Windermere Road.

One of the riders of the bikes damaged the windscreen with an unknown weapon, both motorbikes then rode off.

A spokesman for Cumbria Police said: “Armed police officers were deployed to the scene as a precaution.

“Officers are currently undertaking numerous lines of enquiry to establish exactly what has happened and whether a weapon was involved.

“Officers would also like to speak to anyone who may have seen the two bikes in the area, described as black ‘superbikes’, both were being driven by riders who were wearing black with black helmets and were last seen travelling in the direction of Mirehouse Road.

“Police do not believe there is any danger to members of the public at this time.”

Anyone who has any information or who was in the area at the time is asked to contact Cumbria Police by email on 101@cumbria.police.uk or call 101.
