[E]mergency services are dealing with a crane fire on the M6 between junctions 36 and 37.

Police were called today at 7.39am following report of a crane on fire on the hard shoulder of the northbound carriageway between junctions 36 and 37.

The M6 was closed in both directions between junctions 36 and 39.

The M6 Southbound carriageway is now fully open.

The M6 Northbound at J36 remains closed, however the backlog of traffic is currently being cleared via one lane. Junctions 37-39 Northbound are now open.

The M6 Northbound carriageway at J36 is expected to remain closed for several hours for recovery work, and diversions remain in place.

There are no reports of any injuries. There are tailbacks currently as the fire service work to extinguish the fire and further delays are expected to allow the carriageway to be inspected once the fire is extinguished.
