Wolves Are Coming For You in Kirkby Stephen

[P]entabus Theatre Company and the Everyman Theatre Cheltenham are delighted to return to Kirkby Stephen this year, with their co-production of Wolves Are Coming For You, written by Olivier nominated playwright Joel Horwood.

Someone has seen a wolf. Where did they come from? Someone must be able to do something about them. Otherwise, how will our children get to school? And how will we all get to line dancing in the village hall?

This new play from Olivier-nominated playwright Joel Horwood explores just how much wild we’re comfortable with. If you re-introduce a species, can you ever go back?

Writer Joel Horwood said: I grew up dancing at birthday parties, attending wakes and watching plays in village halls. Pentabus have always made challenging and engaging work for these spaces and audiences and I am delighted to be a part of this latest venture. At a time of such political division, it is essential that we find ways to speak to one another deeply; Pentabus have always aimed to do this through their choices of subject matter and their touring ambitions.

Actors Stacey Evans and Helena Lymbery will perform multiple roles as they summon into being one extraordinary day in an average British village. The audience are invited on an entertaining imaginative journey, as community spirit overcomes fear.

Pentabus Artistic Director Sophie Motley said: Joel’s brilliant play utterly captures how the wild outside can frighten, delight and ultimately coalesce a rural community. His observations are beautiful; intricate characters ageing from 11 to 80 are portrayed with great depth, dexterity and a wry smile. I feel privileged to make my Pentabus directing debut with this play.

Kate Lynch, Chair of Kirkby Stephen Community Arts, said ‘Pentabus Theatre delighted a sold-out audience in 2016 with Here I Belong, and we’re thrilled that they are returning to Kirkby Stephen with this wonderful new play about such an emotive subject for rural communities.’

Presented by Kirkby Stephen Community Arts.
