[C]opeland’s MP has praised staff and volunteers at a local mental health charity fundraiser in Millom.

Trudy Harrison MP attended MindFest at the Beggars theatre in Millom last week which aimed to raise funds for the local mental health charity, Mind-in-Furness.

The musical event which saw various local acts take to the stage was originally set up to highlight the importance of creativity as out outlet for managing mental health issues, as well as raising awareness of mental health issues in the Millom community.

Trudy Harrison MP, said: “I was delighted to meet staff from Millom and Furness Mind at MindFest to learn about their essential work within the community. Services like these are so important and play a huge role in helping those suffering from mental health issues to overcome their distress. I commend their efforts, not only for putting on a fantastic community event, but for their continued hard work in helping those in the community.”

Although Mind-In-Furness is affiliated with the national organization, the Barrow based charity is completely self-funded.

Mind-in-Furness Chief Officer, Karen Dobson said: “It was great to see our local MP Trudy at the event showing her support for Mind-in-Furness and Millom Mayor councillor Angela Dixon.

“This year built on the success of the previous year and we are pleased that we have been able to attract a great line-up, sponsorship from Tosh Steel Fabrications and Groundworks, of Millom, and once again the support of Jackie and the team at Beggars Theatre.

“We are now planning 2018 MindFest as it was such a success it’s a wonderful opportunity to raise funds for our work in Millom supporting local people who are experiencing poor mental health but also a chance to raise awareness and make people aware of the effects of poor mental health and it’s also an opportunity for people to come together be sociable, enjoy each other’s company and enjoy some great music.”

Money raised at the event will be used throughout the Millom community to help tackle mental health issues and raise awareness.

Mind-in-Furness Millom Connect worker, Kenny Tyson Said: “MindFest is a great opportunity to raise awareness of mental health and the services we provide in Millom. We so grateful to all the acts who have come on board and supported Mind by giving their time for free and are so enthusiastic about being involved.

“It means a lot to me to help provide and bring more services to Millom adding to the fantastic support already provided by other organisations in Millom.”
