Explorer Scouts Join Rotary

[U]lverston’s Xenolith Explorer Scout Unit became a Rotary International Interact Club at last Monday’s Rotary Club of Ulverston’s meeting. The Rotary Club were hosts to the Xenolith Explorer Scout Unit and their Assistant District Governor Richard Attenborough presented the Interact Club Charter to Bryan Caine the Explorer Scout Leader to initiate the new club.

The Xenolith Interact Club is sponsored by The Rotary Club of Ulverston and will run in parallel with the normal Xenolith Explorer Scout Unit meetings. This exciting and ground breaking project could be the first Explorer Unit in the country to host an Interact Club as part of their structure.

Explorer Scout Leader Bryan Caine said: “The Rotary Club of Ulverston and the Xenolith Unit have worked together for a number of years helping each other with community projects so becoming an Interact Club seemed to be a natural progression. Explorer Scouting has introduced a new Community Impact Activity Award and I see this partnership facilitating the Explorer Scouts in gaining these awards.“

The Explorer Scouts will benefit from the National and International opportunities offered through the Interact organisation, they will gain a better understanding of local, national and international community involvement and will experience working with Rotarians who have similar values to those of Scouting.

Rotarian Glyn Spalding, who, together with Rotarian Ann Allen, will act as liaison officers between the Rotary Club and the Interact Club, said: “The Rotary Club of Ulverston will benefit from the involvement of a group of energetic and enthusiastic young people working alongside them on a number of projects. It will further spread the word about what Rotary International does in the community and hopefully attract some new members.”
